New York February 6 AP The steel industry told a Wage Stabilization Board panel that fringe benefits sought by CIO steelworkers cloak a wage demand near 60 cents an hour far above the union’s 18 cent raise. Industry spokesmen argued fringe benefits would add about 39.69 cents and that eliminating pay differentials could destabilize the economy and push southern mills out of the market. The hearing aims to avert a February 23 strike by 650,000 workers.
