Deer Lodge Mother Killed In Christmas Eve Crash Near Anaconda
A 43 year old Deer Lodge mother, Mrs William C Balzer, was killed when her car collided head on with a westbound vehicle on the Butte Anaconda road three miles east of Anaconda. Balzer and her husband were occupants of the eastbound car. their son Jack 13 and daughter Edna 11 were injured. The other driver Joe Vauthier 26 of Opportunity was hospitalized at St Ann’s. The husband, Mr Balzer, suffered a fractured leg and multiple cuts and was freed from the wreck with sledge hammers. Coroner A A Longfellow led the investigation at the scene assisted by highway patrol and sheriff deputies.

Injured Couple Trapped in Wreck 13 Hours
Alfred Brockman and his wife, aged 67 and 65, were trapped in a wreck on a gravel road near Arcadia, Iowa, in 22 degree weather for 13 hours. The wife died. A second fatality, Mrs Carry Hegedorn, age 67, of Lake View, Iowa, was in another car driven by Donald Berger, 27, of Vail, Iowa. Brockman suffered multiple injuries including a skull fracture. his wife had a broken leg and other injuries. The crash occurred at 6 p.m. Thursday and was found at 7 a.m. Friday daylight after a neighbor saw wreckage. Brockman reportedly wrote notes on a bank checkbook during the night before deteriorating.
