Rail unions and Kennecott reach Utah accord

Two small Utah railway locals of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen agreed to contracts with Kennecott Copper Corp. The accord comes as Kennecott negotiates with other unions to end a strike idling ore operations since August 10. The wage package matches 22.3 cents an hour and covers about 2,600 workers.

Record copper production posted for Chile in 1959

Chile reports 1959 copper output at 493000 metric tons official tally shows potential to top 550000 if El Teniente strike had not occurred. Previous annual high was 475000 tons in 1954.

Snow May Visit Western Montana Today

Scattered snows may whiten Montana mountains west of the Divide on Christmas Day with only light shower activity elsewhere. A cold front from the west coast could lower western temperatures while the system breaks up across the Divide, leaving eastern Montana mostly dry. Yuletide snow is already on the ground at higher elevations, with Christmas highs 25 to 35 west and 35 to 45 east.

Smeltermen and Anaconda Co sign new contract

Anaconda smeltermen and the Anaconda Co signed a new contract Thursday boosting pay by 22.5 cents hourly and adding a broad health and welfare clause with doctors visits and prescriptions. Unemployed workers may file Monday at 8 a.m. at designated Montana Hotel offices. The pact runs to June 30, 1962, and includes eight double time holidays, expanded vacation provisions, and extended pension and insurance terms.

A Bil lings woman Mrs John Hanson died after a car left U S Highway 87 and rolled over three times west of Lewistown in Judith Basin County. Her husband and 12 year old son were seriously injured as a fire started in the grass before a passerby put it out. The accident occurred about 7 15 p m three miles west of Edys Corner. This death raises Montana 1959 highway toll to 231 with three Montanans killed and nine injured in Wednesday crashes.
