Floods in two northern California areas force more than 11,000 people to flee their homes. Damage tops 30 million dollars as another weather system heads toward the region with a full-force storm expected late Saturday night or Sunday. Local officials warn of worsening conditions.
San Francisco report summarizes northern California floods with Yuba City levee breaks flooding up to eight feet. 8,000 residents fled, 2,000 from Marysville, many marooned on rooftops. Marysville and Yuba City largely evacuated. Pajaro River breaks flood Watsonville downtown. Helicopters, boats, and Army amphibious craft rescue residents. fatalities toll rising.
Washington reports indicate Congress is unlikely to pass an early tax cut after the session resumes January 3. President Eisenhower may omit detailed tax recommendations from his State of the Union, preferring a later special message. Most expect some form of individual tax relief before adjournment, but leaders favor delaying until spending is clearer. Rep.
