Elliston Montana, a 250 resident town 28 miles from Helena, lit its first electric Christmas trees tonight as power from a new Montana Power Co substation flowed on. Residents nearby watched as old lighting systems were discarded and the town welcomed electric service.

In Bethlehem, worshippers from many lands crowded the Church of the Nativity and St Catherine's for a midnight pontifical mass led by the Latin Patriarch. The procession moved to the grotto, where the Christ Child image was placed in a manger until Epiphany, as services continued throughout Christmas Day.

Salt Lake City reports that a United States Army bomber returned to Salt Lake City airport after a fruitless search over western Wyoming. Amateur radiomen claimed faint messages from a missing Western Air liner, mentioning a doctor and being unable to get out about 75 miles off the Salt Lake City line.
Spokane dispatch reports a national guard plane attempted to locate a ground crew for the Northwest Airlines wreck near Cemetery Ridge Idaho panhandle but foggy conditions forced a forced landing at Lane Idaho. Pilot Lt Byron Cooper and observer Ellsworth French were aboard.
Phoenix on Christmas Eve saw a surge in marriage licenses as Walter B. Wilson, court clerk, reported 30 licenses issued that day, surpassing previous years and making Cupid rival Santa Claus for popularity.

Within hours after market placement, 250000 of the citys 883000 refunding bonds were sold. Mayor Charles Hauswirth announced a letter from E J Prescott Co of Minneapolis. Refinancing the remaining 883000 of the 1921 issue will cut annual interest by several thousand dollars. Old bonds carried 6 percent. new bonds carry 3 and 4 percent.

The industrial production index rose from 109 in October to 114 in November while steel ingots automobiles and coal show gains. Strikes reduce plate glass and lumber output while grocery stores rise and rural mail order activity stays strong.
