The city greeted Santa Claus in about 30 languages with a festive chorus lasting across last night and this morning. Officials say Butte has prepared for its greatest Christmas celebration yet, reflecting broad community spirit and multiethnic joy.
Mrs. Anna Freese aged 43, mother of three, fell from a bedroom window in her uptown New York apartment. She was alone. two children were skating and the nurse had the baby. Her husband Vincent, a salesman, was at work. Police say the death may have been accidental due to her asthma illness.
A child’s firecracker caused a Christmas Day explosion at the Cornelius Stacy home on Troublesome Creek Kentucky. Four children died from burns Taylor 3 Sally 5 Richmond 7 Polly 14 and a year old sister plus their mother and Frankie 17 were severely burned. Cornelius Stacy was nearby but could not save the victims.
In Cartersville Georgia a blaze caused by a Roman candle lit by a customer killed two youths aged 12 and 15 who worked as seasonal clerks earning Christmas money. A fourth child was seriously burned as firefighters battled the flames.
John Edwards, 15, of Merrill Wisconsin, is hospitalized after being accidentally shot yesterday by a companion while inspecting a small calibre rifle. The bullet pierced his chest, damaged part of the heart, and lodged under the left arm. doctors believe recovery is possible.
One hundred twenty wards of the county received gifts and entertainment from the Elks at the county hospital last evening. Timothy O Leary directed the hospital program as the Elk entertainers performed over two hours. Gifts were distributed to the patients, some in wheelchairs, with applause filling the room.
A man identified as Ira Hardin Tunney was burned to death in an early morning fire that destroyed room 35 at the Clar ence hotel on East Park street a miners rooming and boarding house. The blaze is believed caused by a carelessly dropped cigarette. The victim occupied another room nearby.
Guthrie resident known as Uncle Tommy marks his 116th birthday born in 1812 in Ireland. He came to the United States in 1828 and says America remains a good place to live while spending time at his step daughter Mrs M R Nickens home and walking the Guthrie streets when weather allows.
A letter carrier found elderly residents Mr. and Mrs. Onslow D. Farrar, aged 85 and 61, in a Pittsfield home after a stove fire had been cut off. They were in serious condition from exposure.
Bulls who led a strong year on the New York Stock Exchange pushed up their top holdings by about 3 dollars to near 184 as Christmas trading opened. The scene reflected a prosperous sector glow despite a delayed start to holiday activity on Wall Street.
The United States district court in Butte disposed of about 80 cases at roughly one per minute and filed 40 additional informations all for violations of the national prohibition act. Only one case involves Butte defendants Jack Anderson and Louis Snell with a trial set for Thursday. Holiday adjournment follows as 64 defendants sentenced nearly all to jail, with stays granted through the Christmas period.

Billings dispatch reports Park City man William Be died after five hours in poison self harm following a rejected marriage offer. State records show the tragedy occurred in Treasure State.
Mr and Mrs Frank Ward of Butte were chased by Plains Montana and Idaho officers with sawed off shotguns after being suspected in a Plains bank robbery. The Wards, prominent locals, left Butte November 29 for a motor tour and claimed innocence as alarms spread across two states. The Plains sheriff pursued into Idaho before the case cooled.
