Innocent Plea in Manslaughter Case Filed by Melvin Branter
Melvin T. Branter an 18 year old Butte youth pleaded innocent to a manslaughter charge in district court yesterday after an information filed by the county attorney’s office. He was released on 5000 bail set by Judge J J Lynch. The information charges Branter with knowingly and feloniously killing Rose Melvin in a car collision December 11 at Front and Raw streets that also killed Francis Burke. A coroner's inquest found Branter entirely to blame and recommended he be held for district court. The accident occurred at 1211 AM on December 11 involving Branter's Plymouth coupe and Burke's Plymouth sedan on a curve at Front and Main streets injuring several others.
