Steel Dispute Meeting Canceled After Absences
A government sponsored bargaining session on the steel dispute was cancelled after noon Tuesday when Steelworkers Union head David J. McDonald and counsel Arthur J. Goldberg did not attend. Federal Mediation Director Joseph F. Finnegan postponed further talks to Wednesday, saying the action was not a strike and noting injunctions remain until January 26.

Anaconda workers vote to accept contract ending 126 day strike
The Anaconda Mill and Smeltermen's Union Local 117 voted 991 to 447 to accept a company contract after a 126 day strike. E I Renouard announced rapid resumption of operations with about 1,000 workers expected within a week. Voting ran 9 am to 6 pm with 1,444 ballots from nearly 2,000 union members.

The pajama clad body of 71 year old John L. Hays from Billings Montana was found Tuesday in the desert east of Las Vegas with several stab wounds. He vanished from his cabin November 21. Deputies reported no clues and said a man walking his dog discovered the body.

Plane Collision Costs 38 Lives
