Fire Chief Martin urged caution during Christmas festivities noting that decorations and new toys pose risks from matches and inflammable materials. He recommended electric lights over candles, safer substitutes for snow effects, and avoiding highly combustible decor while advising proper disposal of paper and tissue.
In Lethbridge Alberta on December 21 the temperature neared 80 degrees with sunshine and no snow in sight. Watering carts operated to dust the streets while distant mountain tops 75 miles west showed snow.
Missoula dispatch reports two planes and nine highway patrolmen transported anti spinal meningitis serum from Spokane to aid Betty Mattson a ten year old girl in Helena and Drummond after fog halted a local landing. The serum helped improve the child's condition following the injection.
A 100-pound Christmas cake valued at $1,000 was presented to President Roosevelt today by the citizens of California. The report also notes overseas gifts and contributions, including trees sent by Tokyo’s mayor and a gesture involving Manila, reflecting a mix of international civic acknowledgments.

Russell Hendrickson of 1721 Florence Avenue was treated at St James Hospital for cerebral concussions and facial abrasions after two unidentified men assaulted him in an alley behind West Broadway. They robbed his money before fleeing. Police Officers Rodda and Gerry noted the incident.
County relief administrator Ralph J. Flynn proposes measures to aid large families by adjusting WPA work eligibility and security earnings. He cites Silver Bow County's financial strain and asks for cooperation while noting steps to check cases and begin placing second-priority workers on projects.
The Northwest planning board formed a forestry advisory committee naming David Mason of Portland as Chairman and T. G. Spalding of the University of Montana as technical adviser. The panel will coordinate with land use sub-divisions. Also authorized nine regional planning conferences on February 13 14 and 16 at Spokane.
In the December issue of the MHEA magazine the Montana Education Association south western district reveals its section committees. District officers elected at Anaconda include Charles Henry Dilton Stamey Griffith Florence Burke and a long list of section chairmen secretaries and vice chairs across counties and subject areas in Butte Deer Lodge Dillon Livingston Missoula Bozeman Helena and other locales.
Hollywood December 31. German star Marlene Dietrich says high taxes and rents make living in America unfeasible. She plans to go to Europe in February and may stay there if conditions remain costly. She would not mind high income tax if America were her home. Rents for a home with a tennis court and pool to accommodate a child run at least $1,000 monthly.
A South Side group staged a Friday scavenger hunt with John Golle’s car awarded as the prize. They then dined at Red Rooster tavern. The St. John’s branch N. C. W. met at Mrs. A Schansberg’s home to plan future activities, discuss a Christmas service at Silver Bow Park M E church, and arrange a gift draw and food donations for the needy. Leroy Baymour arrived from Missoula to visit his parents for Christmas, and sewing club hosts held a holiday party with a luncheon and gift exchange. A Junior Maccabees snow Christmas program is scheduled for Monday night at Moose hall.
The Anaconda company led by FL Kelley and J Res Hobbin s will deliver Christmas gifts to 305 orphans at Twin Bridges and at the Butte Orphans Home. Gifts include dolls, Kodak cameras, clothing, books, and toys wrapped with festive foil and ribbons.

The annual Christmas display, sponsored by the Butte Chamber of Commerce, has grown with private donations and electric decorations. Trees adorn front of Montana Power office on East Broadway and Montane School of Mines dormitory, plus a 49 foot tree at the county hospital.
