Waterways in southwestern Montana face pollution risk study shows

Nearly 600 miles of blue ribbon trout streams in Gallatin and Madison counties are polluted or threatened, the Montana Water Quality Bureau reports. The Gallatin study found 257 miles at risk and Madison 320 miles. five major Madison streams and three smaller ones are degraded due to human activity.

Madison County streams show sediment and temperature rise from irrigation

A study links turbidity and higher water temperatures in the Madison, Big Hole, Beaverhead and Jefferson rivers to agricultural irrigation. Streambank erosion and sediment runoff from logging, grazing and municipal waste are noted in Gallatin and East Gallatin River areas, with recreation developments contributing to channel work and contamination downstream from Bozeman.

Glendive panel hires Helena attorney to defend Quilici
