President Nixon pushes anti inflation plan amid rising living costs and lower real pay. Government data show November CPI at 130.5, 30 percent above 1957 59 base, with families paying more for food housing and transportation as wages fall.
The Senate rejected the 1.8 billion dollar foreign aid bill amid fights over unauthorized items and a budget ceiling. House action later kept the aid program alive through January, with conferees negotiating to resolve differences and restore certain military and Formosa Korea items.
President Nixon aims to broaden relations with Communist China and Romania while easing strains with the Soviet Union. Officials warn of renewed Kremlin resentment as they push for progress on Vietnam, the Middle East, and stalled peace efforts, with a potential new Arab-Israeli flareup feared.
Philadelphia AP report: James Wright a 25 year old fire clerk was acquitted of theft after police alleged he took a trolley car for a 10 block joy ride. The court ruled trolleys cannot be stolen as there was no evidence of intent to remove it from the tracks.
Senate GOP Leader Scott and House GOP Leader Ford indicated President Nixon may sign the tax reform and relief bill though no direct word was given. They cautioned about veto prospects and noted concerns over revenue losses after 1972 and potential housing industry impact.
A flash fire at a Morris Anderson home Saturday evening left the 38 year old in satisfactory condition with burns to arms legs and face while his 18 month old son Joseph suffered extensive burns. Police and a neighbor rushed them to St James Community Hospital about 6 p m. Anderson was cleaning a floor with a flammable cleaner when the blaze started.
Butte residents note no measurable snowfall yet as winter begins officially at 5:44 p.m. MST. November averaged four degrees above normal with .54 inches less precipitation than usual, while past winters showed extreme cold streaks and frigid days. See Chill Chart Page 18.

A California visitor lost a $600 Christmas pocketbook at Boone North Carolina’s tree celebration. 2,500 attended. The bag contained hospital money and her teenage son’s savings. Local radio broadcast the loss. Tom Jones found the bag and returned it. Mrs Mast praised good people.
Mrs Mast offered Jones a 100 reward after people with all 600 inside but he declined and made a swift exit from the eye beauty parlor scene.
