A double decker bus and a cattle truck collided head on near Tucson killing nine and injuring 32. The crash left mangled bodies and scattered cattle across the scene. The bus driver and two truck drivers perished as cattle carcasses scattered inside the bus. Highway Patrol attributed the crash to the truck crossing the center line.
A Greyhound bus carrying 37 passengers skidded on a slick U S 40 near Springfield Ohio and rolled into a ditch. Daisy Mae Harris 15 of Cleveland was killed 34 others injured. Driver Robert Everman 47 unhurt. Two hospitals treated 23 and 11 passengers respectively with 11 listed in good condition and one in critical care. The crash occurred about 8 20 p m near South Vienna as light snow made roads slick. Aboard were travelers bound from New York to St Louis. The incident left grisly scenes including injured animals later shot by authorities. The bus’s upper level passengers mostly escaped through windows as the vehicle came to rest on its top.
Kimberly Boehler Jo Lee Carl and Judy Sweeney participated in an ornament project for Christmas benefiting the Drugette and the Food Bank. Stores cooperated in the sale and distribution of the ornaments.
Paris AP says the Western Big Three invited Soviet Premier Khrushchev to attend an April summit in Paris. Eisenhower, de Gaulle, and Macmillan proposed a series of talks with the East to resume disarmament discussions. A de Gaulle US visit was also announced ahead of the East‑West meeting. Hagerty cited multiple summits as likely.
A White House statement says lead and zinc import quotas will stay in place until the domestic mining industry improves. Don Paarlberg sent Eisenhower aide letter to Aspinall, noting low spirits in the Kansas Missouri Oklahoma lead zinc region and continued high ore imports under the Oct 1 1958 quotas. Gov Nelson Rockefeller of New York said if he seeks the presidency he would be delighted to have Vice President Richard Nixon as his running mate. Rockefeller made the remark during a television interview taped in Miami and broadcast Sunday on WPST TV.
Five people perished in a weekend fire at the Holleran Hotel in Lima Ohio a frame building serving railroaders and old age pensioners. Police say victims likely residents or guests not identified yet. Fire brought under control in about two hours. The Holleran operated by Mae Millbaugh and family on Lima's south side.
The National Planning Assn projects 1960 total U S production around 480 to 500 billion dollars, a rise from 1959. It notes higher outlook for production, income, employment and possibly prices, but flags weaknesses from tighter credit in residential construction and a likely drop in farm investments. Gerhard Colm, the association’s chief economist, oversaw the projection.
Adm. Sir Cecil Harcourt who accepted the Japanese surrender of Hong Kong in 1945 died in London at age 67 from a heart attack. The death was announced Sunday.

A 23 year old Butte man was seriously injured along with his wife and 12 year old son after a car ran off U S Highway 91 north of Glen. The second crash on Highway 105 injured 16 year old Mary Leding as her car spun on ice.
Four members of the Walker family and a 3 year old girl were found dead in a rural Osprey Florida home after a violent assault Saturday night. Sheriff Boyer said the scene was grim with three victims shot in the head and the child drowned in a bathtub. No suspects or leads yet.

FBI Director J Edgar Hoover reported a banner year for bank robbers in 1959. A yearend briefing to Attorney General William P Rogers said robberies would rise about ten percent above the 704 banks hit in 1958, establishing a new record.
A grenade exploded in a crowded Algiers bar wounding four Algerians and a French sergeant. Police said a young Algerian threw the grenade and fled. Nearby near Bone an ore train derailed when a mine exploded under the tracks. One train crew member was killed and another wounded.
