Anaconda Company Eyes Settlement as Phosphate Output Begins
The Anaconda Copper Co. Tuesday announced it would push for an early end to the copper strike amid Union Mine Mill charges of company responsibility. A secret refer endum vote by smeltermen in Anaconda is set for Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to decide on a 30 month contract offer, the first such vote since the strike began August 19. E. I. Renouard, VP for western operations, said the vote could confirm acceptance of the offer.

Dr John K Colman a longtime Butte orthopedic surgeon since 1936 died Saturday after illness. He lived at 2744 Floral and was born in Dunkirk New York where he trained before earning a Michigan medical degree. He moved to Butte 23 years ago, worked at Murray Clinic seven years, then opened private orthopedic practice at Mayer Building. He was active in state medical circles and on a Governor's Mental Health Committee aiding crippled children and rehabilitation.

Kalispell Man Killed in State's 227th Traffic Fatality
Kalispell 31 year old James T. Ambrose died in a two car crash on U S Highway 2 five miles east of Kalispell at about 2 20 a m. Ambrose son of Flathead County public administrator Tom Ambrose survived by a brother William and a sister Mary Listhman. Two others injured were Charlie F Cleman of Billings and Dwayne Harvey of Englewood Colorado. Coroner Sol Catron said the collision marked Montana Highway fatalities this year reaching 227.
