Russian bombers raided Helsinki for the first time in weeks while Finnish planes countered with offensives along the border. At least four Russian aircraft were shot down and thirty two bombs, some 600 pounds, fell on Helsinki suburbs with limited damage. Reuters reported the 23,256 ton battleship Oktiabrskaya Revolutsiya sunk.
London reports a German offensive using aerial torpedoes striking British shipping. Two fishing trawlers and four other vessels including three neutrals were sunk or damaged, with crews saved or missing. Ships named City of Kobe Jytte Glittefjell Bogo Zealous Active faced torpedoes or mines amid ongoing Nazi attacks.
A damaged line reports Graf Spee officers and crew to be interned after a collision incident. Clyde Ingram, 27, of 1339 Iowa, remained at St James hospital with a fractured jaw and head cuts from a runaway fruit truck carrying about 10 tons of oranges and grapefruit that smashed into a rock wall on U S highway No 10 east of Butte. Authorities said his condition was not serious and he was recovering from a terrifying one mile ride at the wheel as patrolmen worked from afternoon until midnight.
President Robert M. Ortiz ordered the internment of 1,039 Nazi officers and men from the Graf Spee. Some will be housed in Buenos Aires while others are sent to Argentina's interior provinces for the war's duration, with Germany bearing the cost. Captain Hans Langsdorff and his crew arrived in Buenos Aires after the Graf Spee blew up near Montevideo following a battle with British ships.
Crowds filled Butte streets for the holiday season as stores stayed open late with extra clerks on duty. Merchants reported strong business. evening hours continue with textile shops open and a festive city scene highlighted by lights on the Anselmo mine frame and a large Christmas tree nearby.

Miss Louise Schrupp muscle training nurse will organize a program and a Christmas tree. About a number of children are expected with parents welcome.

A letter from C F Kelley of New York City president of Anaconda Copper Mining Company was read at a testimonial dinner honoring the Butte Mines band. Kelley, one of three honorary members, sent greetings to Director Sam Treloar and other honorees James T. Finlen Jr. read the missive.
Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles suggested that the United States would soon take measures to reduce the likelihood of future naval confrontation, in remarks tied to ongoing Britain Germany hostilities near Montevideo.

A line of Flathead Indians is invited to the feast as amateur photographers compete for a I. E. 8. floor lamp prize with entries due by January 1 and the display continuing through December 31.
