Residents in Bigfork and Somers reported definite jolts heard and felt between 6:50 and 6:54 am Tuesday, attributed to an earthquake. Three jolts were observed in the Bigfork area and two in Somers.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employes reopened negotiations in Helena to fix statewide pay for Montana Highway Department maintenance workers. The union seeks uniform rates across counties and proposed a new contract for engineers and office staff to replace a court nullified agreement. Mechanic pay in Silver Bow Deer Lodge and Cascade counties runs higher than $3.03 statewide, a gap the union cites as unfair.
About 400 convicts seized guards at Villa Devoto in Buenos Aires provoking a fierce street fight that left at least 15 killed and hostages taken. Federal police reinforced the area as negotiators attempted to end the siege.
