Auto Tires Will Be Rationed Begin January Fourth
Price Administrator Leon Henderson announced that government rationing of automobile tires would start January 4. State and local boards would issue ration cards to individuals and agencies needed for industrial efficiency and civilian health. Civilian crude rubber use would drop to 10,000 tons monthly from about 47,000. The temporary tire sale ban, set to end December 22, is extended to January 4 pending rationing plan details.

Melvin Eugene Vonada, 20, died at the naval air station hospital after his plane crashed. Authorities said the crash cause was not yet determined. Vonada, son of Henry Vonada of Helena Montana, enlisted at Salt Lake City on September 12, 1938.
