Beaumount Cal Dec 17 A car lost control on Highway 99 two miles east of Banning, struck a bridge and burned. Four of six occupants died at the scene: Andreas Morelos driver Enriqueta Malando Nellie Saswetta and Dora Recio all of Brawley. Antonia Aguiree and her brother Jose suffered severe burns and injuries but are expected to survive.

The 3,600 Butte Civil Works Project employees in Silver Bow county will receive Christmas paydays. Federal disbursing officer Alex McDonald announced yesterday that despite the usual payday schedule for the week ending December 14, paychecks will be ready for distribution this coming Friday and Saturday after extra hours by the disbursing office.

Patrick H. McMenomey fifty Armstead rancher was killed when a truck driven by Lowell Martinell struck his stalled car on the highway twelve miles south of Dillon. Martinell said he did not see the car until near collision and McMenomey was thrown into a gravel pit beside the road. He could not be carried out, and emergency crews were summoned.
A severe windstorm, the second this month, caused minor structural damage and knocked out power in Anaconda leaving the residential district in darkness for hours. A brick garage front collapsed as billboards signs were shattered and trees and roofs sustained damage. Wind velocity reached 75 to 80 miles an hour.
Four people died and 19 were injured as a tornado struck the Grayson lumber camp 18 miles west of Shreveport and the Soda Fountain plantation near Dixie. A white woman and two Black workers died at the camp while a Black woman and eight Black workers died at the plantation. Eleven camp workers were injured.
Westport Ireland Dec 17 United Ireland party leader General Eoin O'Duffy was arrested after a clash between blue shirts and police. He was first seized, rescued by followers, re arrested and fled across fields as 100 horsemen and troops patrolled the town streets. He spoke from a platform before police charges and renewed demonstrations.
On the thirtieth anniversary, hundreds visited Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk to honor the Wright brothers first flight. The wreath ceremony by Lt Cmdr Frank Hawks was canceled by weather, but the scene recalled the 1903 lift that marked a milestone in aviation.
A Helena legislative committee heard that 500 additional Silver Bow county men will be employed within three days, joining 3,600 already on Civil works. James J. Joseph A. Kelly 39 of Anaconda died after a shotgun he was disassembling exploded in his kitchen at 611 West Fifth Street. An obituary notes his Navy service, athletic fame, and roles with the Smelter Electricians' union. He leaves a wife Catherine, two children, and multiple relatives in Anaconda and beyond. coroner calls the death an accident.

Four dead and six or more wounded at Emergency Hospital including a linotype operator, a newsboy, a printer and two bystanders. Police and soldiers battled snipers as crowds looted typewriters and furniture.
Western Washington towns Aberdeen and Hoquiam faced historic floods as an intense gale lashed the coast. Ships Henry D Whiton and Charles L Wheeler Jr ran aground or sought aid while 11-foot tides backed rivers flooding business districts. Rescue boats and Coast Guard units aided marooned residents amid heavy rain.
Neighbors with a bucket brigade doused a roof fire at Ernest Holst’s home 320 Locust street saving the dwelling. About 200 damage occurred as wind challenged responders. Fire likely started in a chimney while the Holst family recently mourned Mrs. Josephine Holst. A second fire slightly damaged a wood shed at 1948 Harrison avenue.
