A phosphorescent sheen over the sea is produced by countless bioluminescent plankton. Researchers note that the light originates from tiny marine organisms that emit light when disturbed by waves and movement.

Butte Eyewear Replaced After Chase Incident

Butte city council approved $52 for Police Captain Ed Molthen to replace eyeglasses broken during the December 4 chase of a St. Regis youth in Nine Mile. Police also report vandalism at the Montana Laundry with windows broken and a BB gun-caused damage at Sewell Hardware. Community events include a South Side Athletic Club Christmas party and Square Dancing tonight, plus enlistments of Sharron Ensign and Arlene Chaffin into the Women’s Army Corps and a Marian Mothers and A ssoates party at Girls Central High.

The State charges Thomas Lee Alley with armed robbery of two Livingston fishermen on the Big Hole river north of Dillon in September 1959. Jury of 10 men and two women seated. defense by John H. Jardine of Whitehall and prosecution by Carl M. Davis of Dillon.

Injured Dillon Man Brought to Butte for Care

Gwyn A. Brown, 47, a Dillon gasoline dealer, was seriously hurt Tuesday night when his truck left U.S. 91 and overturned 11 miles south of Dillon. He was trapped for an hour before responders freed him. He was taken to Silver Bow County General Hospital in Butte for tests and treatment. X-ray results were not yet announced.

Montana Power Co. Wins 50-Year Franchise Renewals in Montana

In Big Timber and Livingston voters approved 50 year natural gas franchises for the Montana Power Co. by large margins 213 to 4 and 419 to 108 respectively. Bozeman property owners have a renewal vote set for December 20.

Plan to Cut Legislative Attache Costs Proposed

Montana lawmakers consider saving 25000 to 30000 by hiring stenographers clerks and typists from state departments. The proposal endorsed by Govs Aronson and Nutter stems from budget director Reid's report urging payroll reform and borrowing existing machines to reduce expenses. Hazelbaker and Dykstra unveiled details as part of the new legislative administration committee in Bozeman.

Beaverhead ASC elects 1961 officers and alternates

Roy Forrester was reelected ASC chairman for Beaverhead County in 1961 with John E. Blomquist as vice chairman and Lee Martinell reelected to the committee. Parke T. Scott and Jack Briggs named first and second alternates. Supervising and nominating the election were a county board and local agencies, with 142 ballots received from about 385 eligible voters.

Butte Council Approves Fire Insurance Contract

The Butte City Council on Wednesday night backed a special committee’s plan granting the Butte Board of Insurers a one year contract for city fire coverage. The 18 firms agreed to a premium of 2396.24 dollars while property valuation stood at 509243 pending appraisal. The Queen City Insurance Co canceled city fire coverage after the library fire.

Hail Insurance Board Defends Powers Against Council Plan

Montana hail board members blasted the Legislative Council for proposed abolishment and urged amendments. Bowman said the reserve fund should rise to 1.5 million, 1 percent of premiums return to counties, and delinquent hail policies be canceled after 10 years.
