British and Nazi discuss pact at Serlin talks

Sir Eric Phipps British ambassador and Adolf Hitler met in a one hour conference on December 14 in Serlin to discuss limits on armaments and an aerial treaty among Locarno signatories. Baron Constantin von Newrath attended. The talks were described as frank and confidential. The proposed aerial pact would bind Germany France England Belgium and Italy under mutual defense terms.

Doctor Uses His Own Blood in Transfusion

Boulogne France December 14. Dr Prouvost a country physician provided his own blood for a transfusion to save a young mother during childbirth in a remote village. With no suitable donor available he drew blood from his own veins and saved the patient’s life.

Cigaret Stubs Blamed For Costly Timber Fires

Forest officials report 1936 saw the greatest timber loss in five years with 70 fires costing $27,487 to suppress and timber valued at $5,107. Major outbreaks burned hundreds of acres, all blamed on careless smokers, while drought and public vigilance limited spread.

Butte Camp Fire Girls held their annual Grand Council Fire at the YMCA with a Court of Awards. Woodgatherers bonds went to Mary Ellen Kearns Jacqueline Hewitt Jean Stewart Mary Jane Fisher and Jane Schultz. Firemakers went to Marie Henseler and Marguerite McGreal.

The Butte Business College Danc ing club will hold its holiday dance Friday, Dec. 27. Jan Rich's orches tra will furnish the music. William Kyle, who was appointed first alternate to Annapolis, has re turned to school of review mathe matics and English. Hugh Anderson and Ellsworth Ginsberg are new entries in the typewriting department. Leona Wilkinson of Superior, having completed the work in the bookkeeping department, has en rolled in the shorthand department. Edith Chappelle, Mary Rodecay, May Nordgren, Neil Jussila, Laura McCrery and June Keefe have met the shorthand and typewriting' Ter quirements for dictation IT. A high-speed 15-minute Lisdacti ing test was turned in by Julia Talonen, writing 81 words a minute with two errors. Bob Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Rice, left for Salt Lake City this morning. Marjorie Whittaker has left for a month's vacation in Denver, where she will visit relatives and friends. She will return to school the first of January. Sam Babich has enrolled in the high school department for a course in advanced Spanish. Marie Larsen and Winnifred Dobb have met the shorthang and type writing requirements for dictation one at night school.

Merrigan Parents of Busky Young Man

Mr and Mrs Merrigan of 3015 Richardson are the parents of a husky son born Friday night at Murray hospital. Mrs Merrigan, formerly Miss Catherine Carroll, is remembered. The father, a young man from Butte, is busy receiving congratulations as France records Bordeaux crop damage from recent hail.
