A formal public opening celebrated St James Hospital’s new unit funded by community generosity and Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. Civilians military leaders and professionals praised the Sisters and Butte residents whose contributions funded the $600,000 addition housing modern medical and surgical facilities. Seabee Aurelio Tassone Identified For Heroic Tank Drive
Fireman first class Aurelio Tassone of Milford Massachusetts has been identified as the Seabee who killed 12 Japanese in a pillbox with a 20 ton bulldozer during the Treasury Islands landing on October 27. Tassone attacked from a rear blind spot, raised the scraper as a shield, then drove over the bunker, then loaded earth onto the demolished gun position to cover the wreck. Twelve bodies and a large new type gun were found in the debris.
