O Connor New York Democrat leads the Rules Committee bid while Rayburn Texas Democrat gains momentum with support from Pennsylvania Congressmen and a switch attempt rumored from the Pennsylvania delegation. The battle features attacks on Senator Guffey and party factions seeking to influence outcome before the president's return.
A five minute district court session heard a canvassing board recount on the November 3 general election contest between J. J. Lynch and Judge F. L. Riley. The board delayed further action until Monday morning for full review. Unofficial tallies show Lynch at 8432 and Riley at 8276 across 57 precincts, with six precincts undetermined. The report, by chair Fred Batani and members Tom Merkle and Emmett P. O'Brien, covered 40 precincts with 34 recounts.
Judge J Stanley Webster declared the revised Frazier Lemke farm mortgage law unconstitutional in a District Federal Court ruling in Spokane Washington. The United States Supreme Court previously ruled the original act unconstitutional.
