Johnson to trim defense budget and payroll next year
President Johnson revealed at a White House news conference that the defense budget and the Pentagon civilian payroll will be cut in the next fiscal year while aiming to keep total spending under 102 billion dollars. He indicated civilian jobs on the defense payroll would fall below one million by June 30 1965 and that McNamara will tour South Viet Nam. He also said he would address the UN General Assembly on December 17 in New York.

Falls Youth Is Held As Shooting Suspect
Great Falls story reports a man shot to death in his home during a domestic dispute. The victim, Fred Lindberg, 31, a plumber, was killed with a 22 caliber pistol. His 17 year old brother in law, Dennis Neal Morrow, was booked on homicide. An airman witness, Pete Sindra, 21, warned bystanders during the disturbance. The incident began when Mrs Lindberg and relatives visited a tavern leaving Lindberg with two children. Continued on page 19.

Four Americans Seized in Bolivia Hostage Drama
In Catavi Bolivia leftist workers seized three U S government officials and a Peace Corps volunteer as hostages to press for the release of three Communist labor leaders detained by the government. Pryor man Jason Dawes, 53, was struck near Billings by a bakery truck after dusk. driver could not see him. Mrs. Nellie Stender, 57, of Miller South Dakota, died after a hospital transfer. she had a police officer husband killed six months earlier in another crash.
