Prof Rice Rites Set For Friday Morning In Butte
Funeral services for Alonzo F. Rice 90 longtime Butte educator and civic leader will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St Patrick Church with a 10 a.m. cortege from White’s Funeral Home. Interment follows at Holy Cross Cemetery. Rice who founded Butte Business College in 1890 died Wednesday at his home 914 W Park after a period in hospital. He came to Montana 73 years ago and influenced many through civic work and education. The college will close Friday in his honor. He was born July 30 1867 in Chilhowee County Missouri and traveled via railroad to Montana and back to pursue schooling and teaching career.
