Montana Hit By Worst Crash Of Year Near Armington Junction

Seven people died and two were injured in a head on collision eight miles south of Armington Junction in Cascade County. A Great Falls area bound ski crowd from Showdown Ski Area crossed the center line on Kings Hill and struck a southbound car carrying two. One died and the other was injured. both injured were in satisfactory condition at a Great Falls hospital. The state fatality toll for 1977 rose to 301, tying Montana’s worst crash year.

Washington floods claim four lives as rivers recede

Western Washington rivers receded Saturday after floods that killed four people. Dead include a Fort Lewis soldier missing after a fall near the fort, a man swept by the Lewis River, a Portland man buried by a slide, and an 71 year old woman whose Aberdeen home slid into a river. Gov. Ray declared a disaster as officials assess damage and seek federal aid.

Former Montanan Reunited With Daughter After 32 Years

Ralph Stallinger, 64, found his English daughter Vivien Davis after 32 years apart. Vivien, who flew from the London area, learned of her American father by a July call, and reunited with him in Miami with his wife supporting the search.

Ford restorer guides 125 car collection in Deer Lodge

Lewis Rector, master restorer of the Towe Antique Ford Collection, maintains hundreds of Ford cars and parts in Helena valley. With Ed Towe, they moved about 45 cars from Montana Historical Society to Deer Lodge, aiming to house a full restoration facility there while continuing storage and preservation nearby.

Montana mines show coal tops copper in value for 1975

Montana mineral production rose about 17 percent to an estimated 670 million dollars in 1975. Coal reached 143 million dollars from 26 million tons, surpassing copper which totaled 126 million dollars. Oil and gas combined neared 305 million, with copper largely from Butte’s Berkeley Pit.
