Butte Women Salvage 1100 Pounds of Stockings for War Effort

The American Women's Voluntary Service in Butte reports salvaging over 1,100 pounds of silk and nylon stockings. Stockings, boxed at 5 North Main, will be shipped to a Wer Production Board designated center to be converted into gun powder bags. The drive began before WPB guidelines and expanded as retail counters joined the collection effort.

House Passes Farm Parity Price Bill

In a surprise move the House revived and passed unanimously a farm parity price bill. The measure would require including farm labor costs in the parity formula for the first time, potentially lifting the parity level by about 10 percent and raising costs of living.

Americans Sink Nine Japanese Ships in Guadalcanal Action

U S Navy reports a surprise Japanese effort to reinforce on Guadalcanal was intercepted Monday night. Nine enemy ships were sunk including six destroyers and two transports with a cargo vessel. Japanese losses unofficially around 7 000 killed. One American cruiser was sunk. The battle marks continued Solomons fighting since August 7 with at least 51 Japanese ships sunk in the campaign.

James Leary announced the biennial mail vote results with Robinson winning the top spot over John J. Driscoll and James Byrne. Leary also reported re election of Ora L. British Bombers Hit Frankfurt in Heavy Night Raids

British heavy bombers shifted focus to Germany and struck western Germany on Wednesday night. Four engined Halifaxes and Lancasters, each able to carry eight tons, targeted Frankfurt's communications and industrial centers. Six planes were lost in the raid.

London reports sixteen Allied ships sunk during the North Africa operation, with very small casualties. Among vessels lost were five US transports, the Avenger carrier, and several destroyers and support ships. several transports and ships were damaged.
