Paris sources say France will tolerate no interference in Tunisia despite protests to Italy over Fascist clamor regarding the French African protectorate.
Seattle reports Earl Mayer a 44 year old life term habitual criminal and Mary Eleanor Smith 73 charged with first degree murder in the Bassett case. Prosecution testimony began as Mayer joked with reporters. authorities say Bassett’s body was never found.
Arthur E. Morgan told a congressional committee that the Tennessee Valley Authority ran a $9.5 million deficit in its first five years and used biased cost allocations. He claimed TVA power sales were below cost and that the board pursued flood-control risks, acting like a private holding company. Morgan, former Antioch College head, outlined accounts and urged scrutiny of TVA practices.
Tulsa report says a three year old, Ethel Rae Kuhn, died when a suspected liquor hijacker waved a shotgun during a midnight raid at her home. Five men were questioned as police investigated the accidental shooting of the child sleeping near her parents.

The stand emphasizes a pay shift from piecework to day work as the main issue and notes broader effects on Buick and its 14000 workers. A Labor Department mediator was dispatched to Michigan to seek a settlement.
In Pittsburgh on December 3 a farmer named John Stoyko told a federal court jury he sent his son to jail for four months after warning him he would claim ownership of an illicit whiskey still found on the family farm. He said he had pleaded with the boy to remove the still from an abandoned mine on the property.

King Carnival starts a six night court of comedy at the Knights of Columbus building in Butte Friday evening. Attended by Fun and Frolic, the festival runs through the week with nightly sessions and various entertainments across three floors. Ambassadors Dr. J. J. Kelley and Patrick Mc Donough announce a large setup including booths, games, and dancing areas.
The Montana Department of Public Welfare mailed 14 702 checks totaling 317 488 68 dollars in old age assistance. 12 502 recipients received 356 391 18 dollars. aid to 4 683 dependent children totaled 59 052 50 dollars and aid to 95 blind persons 2 045 dollars. Silver Bow led with 20 998 10 dollars. other top counties listed. Payments rise as aid numbers grow.
The Montana board of equalization reports a $95,000,000 net shift in assessable property for 1936-38, with farm land and improvements down about $44.7 million and livestock off $11.5 million due to drought, utility values down $3.6 million amid railroad asset concerns. Other property classes rose by about $37.15 million. The report was prepared for Governor Ayers and the 1939 Legislature.
Paris dispatch reports four days of orchestration by Fascist Italy over claims in French Tunisia Corsica and Nice. Count Galeazzo Ciano asserted peace would guide policy while defending Italian interests provoking staged demonstrations in the chamber and press.
New York Dec 3 by Dr Kendall Emerson of the National Tuberculosis Association reports 1937 shows a record low TB death rate. 69 151 TB deaths occurred nationwide down from 171 239 in 1936 with the rate dropping from 55.5 to 53.5 per 100 000. Ages 15 to 45 remain worst hit and TB remains the leading killer in that group with some states showing higher mortality in 1937.
The Exchange club will wrap up its toy collection this week and, through Christmastime, repair and rebuild toys at St. Nick's shop in the old Butte high school. George Misevic oversees NYA supervision with Marian White Art and Crafts club members, Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls aiding under Miss Betty Horst. Two truckloads of toys were gathered.
