France plans a second Man of War of 26 000 tons with 320 mm guns and 29 knots to bolster Rhineland defenses. The new battle cruiser would be the big sister to the Dunkerque, built after Germany unveiled its 10 000 ton pocket battleships. Diplomacy also aims to strengthen France's air force while army and navy prepare for any eventuality.
Colonel Lindbergh and wife Mrs. Charles A. Lindbergh fueled for a long flight in Bathurst Gambia officials say the seaplane is ready for a Sunday dawn takeoff bound for Natal Brazil. Lindbergh remains uncommunicative about plans and seeks no diplomatic recognition.
Helena December 2 The Montana legislature enters week two of a special session amid continued deadlock. Governors plea to act swiftly clashes with divisions over National Recovery Act funding and state participation in federal funds. Key issues include funding to meet relief needs, state engineer appropriations for irrigation projects, and water conservation board creation.
James F. E. Tatum, 38, died in an ambulance en route to Glasgow shortly after his car skidded and overturned seven miles east of the city. Passenger Joe Higgins, 45, and Lena Anel were injured. all three were pinned beneath wreckage. Sheriff Al Fassett investigates a missing liquor value about $100 in the car. Tatum had lived in Billings and Helena and was unmarried.
New York and other cities prepare for repeal day as states edge toward ending the 14 year ban. Federal and local authorities plan extensive precautions while crowds rush to stock liquor for what many call a prohibition wake. Hotels take reservations, trucks load liquor, and liners abroad ship whiskeys bound for U S ports.
President Roosevelt finished a two week stay at Warm Springs Georgia and signed the liquor import code before heading to Washington. The code sets minimum imports from the 1910 to 1914 five year average and allows the federal alcohol control administration to set additional quotas based on consumer needs. Edward Lowry explained the rule as repeal nears.
Taxpayers locally approved a $50,000 federal loan for city school repairs by 347 to 128. West side voted 192 to 66 at Daly school, East side 155 to 62 at Lincoln school. Government coverage of $15,000 reduces taxpayer obligation to $35,000 repaid over 20 years.

Henry Carstens of Spokane is hospitalized in Missoula after a west Missoula auto crash. He remains in critical condition with both legs broken and multiple injuries as Sheriff J R Thompson investigates. Hospital staff say only slight hopes for recovery exist.
Unsettled conditions persist Sunday with snow focused in the west and a colder east. Monday again brings unsettled skies as cold air remains in place across the state.
Big 14 conference coaches named the All Montana high school football players of 1933. Billings and Butte each placed three players on the mythical squad after eliminating rivals. Butte Central Great Falls Helena Missoula Miles City earned berths, with Lyons of Butte Central earning a unique all state end spot despite questions about his halfback eligibility.
Three thousand Butte men on the civil works program will receive checks on December 9 for one day’s pay up to 18 dollars or one week’s pay for 30 hours at 60 cents an hour. It is the first payday under the new federal employment program local supervised. By Wednesday 3,600 families may gain work and Santa Claus will hear names for the holidays.
Mrs William Brockman 28, wife of a Hardin County farmer, was found shot and her body burned beside her light truck after leaving home to go to Kountze to exchange baby shoes. A posse formed and searched nearby woods for a Negro seen with a shotgun near the scene.
The weather man said Butte may enjoy more Indian summer days starting today. After 36 yesterday and a high barometer, mild conditions continue despite a four degree early morning low. Wet streets and melting snow patches show the warmth persists and two overcoats remain unused.
Washington December 2 Senator Pope Democrat Idaho predicts the federal government will purchase silver in coming weeks to stabilize the industry. He estimated an annual purchase of about 200 million dollars and cited a possible gold price of 41.34 an ounce as a trigger for silver actions. He noted Senators Wheeler and Dill and President Roosevelt favor silver purchases to stabilize and stimulate the industry. The plan reportedly would cap production and set a price floor to prevent slumps.
Hugh S. Johnson, NRA administrator, spoke at a mass meeting in Philadelphia urging fidelity to the NIRA and fairness. He acknowledged labor and industry complaints but defended the program, urging leaders to read the act’s first paragraph on eliminating unfair competition and maximizing productive capacity. He said the focus is on improving the system, not avoiding NRA mistakes.
O. J. Seeley, 69, once operator of Montana lumber yards with headquarters in Billings, died Friday at his Glendale residence. He was born in Cordova, Illinois.
Earthquakes rattled Hawaii as Mauna Loa burst into activity near Hilo. Residents along the Kona coast fled coastal villages while reports said lava streams reached 14 miles from the foot of the crater. Army HQ cautioned that lava flow data were unconfirmed.
Washington December 2 The Home Owners Loan Corporation announced tentative approval of 2966 Montana applications through November 24 involving 5 091 508 in loan value. Of these 110 applications totaling 222 504 were approved with reduction and 2856 totaling 4 868 912 were approved without reduction. 481 applications were rejected before appraisal 88 after appraisal and 45 withdrawn. Bonds exchanges closed 114 loans totaling 297 996 average 2614. Seven loans totaling 5596 were closed on 50 percent cash basis.
