A man tried to smash a battered pickup through a White House gate but was stopped by steel bars and seized by Secret Service. Steven B. Williams, 38, of Santa Fe New Mexico, was charged with destruction of government property after the incident near the Oval Office.
Butte aldermen authorized the public works department to begin negotiating an interlocal agreement with Silver Bow County to fund three 32 passenger buses. Each diesel bus from Spokane would cost about 12 000 dollars, totaling 36 000 to 40 000 dollars. City and county would pay 18 000 to 20 000 dollars each. Buses could start by January 1 and serve until an Urban Transportation District is created. Mayor Micone urged immediate renewal amid resident requests after Butte Bus Lines ceased last August.
