Burbank Calif December 1. Ruth Nichols the Rye New York society aviatrix set a new women’s transcontinental flight record arriving at United airport at 11 57 am. Three Suffocate in 2900-Foot Tunnel Freight Ride Incident
In Eugene Oregon a 70 car freight train carrying suspected trespassers broke apart in a 2900 foot tunnel between West Fir and Oak Ridge. Three men died from gas exposure and 16 others were overcome as the train traversed toward Klamath Falls. The dead were unidentified and hospital patients too weak to identify themselves. Some escapees reached tunnel exits unaided. Crew signaled approaching trains from the tunnel entrances.

Helena December 1 Special Com missioner A H Stafford states the Pondera turkey pool closed another year by selling all birds to Hansen Packing Co of Butte at bids from 1 50 to 4 per hundred pounds over market. First grade birds brought 3044 cents per pound, second grades 25 cents. Highest No 1 bid was 29 cents, No 2 bids 21 to 22 1/2 cents. Hansen chairman Walter Hansen said the deal exceeds 45000 and dressed poultry will ship in five carloads, likely to California where Montana turkeys sold near 100000 last year in Los Angeles.
