Walkerville prepares for house-to-house mail service ending 17 years of effort to gain convenience. The Walkerville Post Office will close its Main and Daly location as a U S Post Office Walkerville Branch opens in city hall at 44 W Daly with postmistress Marguerite Davies operating the new station. City officials and aldermen led the drive aided by county crews in frigid conditions to install curbside boxes and ready the service for the Tuesday start.

In Fairview, a 3 year old, Martin Glenn Salsbury, perished from asphyxiation after a closet shelter during a morning house fire. A babysitter saved the infant sister, Sherry, but could not locate Martin in time. The fire, likely sparked near a gas fireplace, damaged the single story stucco house. no inquest.

Billings Man 21 Dies in Thanksgiving Weekend Crash
Larry Neibauer 21 of Billings died from head injuries after a car left the road near a bridge east of Billings. Passenger Pete Knudson 18 was injured as four guard rail posts were torn from a demolished car that plunged 450 feet down an embankment. Neibauer is Montana’s 218th traffic death this year, 36 more than last year, with two other fatalities and a flash fire during the holiday weekend. Additional victims include George Linden 61 and Venus Linden 49 in a Missoula trailer fire, Kenneth R. Wood 27 of Whitefish, and John A. Johnson 78 of Moiese in separate crashes.
