Finland's cabinet quits after Moscow demands and Soviet bombs ignite Helsinki and surround Viipuri and coastal towns. Red fleet seizes Seiskari island as fighting spans the 800 mile frontier and the Arctic corridor.
Moscow dispatch says Red Army legions moved 10 to 15 kilometers into Finland after alleged Finnish border provocations. Tass quoted the invasion began at 8 am local time with forces crossing the frontier on the Karelian isthmus and other points. A Moscow broadcast warned Helsinki to capitulate by 3 am or be destroyed.
City and county treasurers reported about 75 percent of 1939 property tax first installments received by last night. Mail receipts not counted until postmarked by midnight. County treasurer George OBrien Jr. noted about 350000 collected this November with 500000 expected. city treasurer Bernard Holland cited 207000 to date with 240000 expected.
The fall clinic of the Butte Auxiliary for the Rehabilitation of Crippled Children opens at St James hospital with about 100 local children. Dr L W Allard will lead the event assisted by Miss Louise Schrupp. Surgery cases go to St Vincent hospital Billings.
Silver Bow county launches its 1939 Christmas seal sale to raise funds against tuberculosis. Dr Curtis L Wilson leads the Butte Anti Tuberculosis Society as letters carrying over two million seals go out to Butte and surrounding areas seeking resident support for the drive.
The Christmas shopping season opens with a dollar day sale in Butte drawing thousands to the business district. Stores offer gift items for $1 and many other goods with a $1 down payment as they anticipate one of the era’s biggest dollar days.
The forecast calls for fair weather in Montana on Friday and Saturday with little change in temperature. Highs and lows are expected to remain near seasonal norms as skies stay mostly clear.
November 1939 closed with light snow and above normal temperatures. A 30 day period with negligible precipitation ended as a 46 degree high and 18 degree low were recorded. One light snow flurry ended 21 days without measurable precipitation. December forecast called for fair weather.
Russian air force bombs Finnish towns Petsamo Liinahamari and Parkina along the Arctic corridor near the Murmansk coast. Planes machine gun cars and buses on the main highway, with Petsamo and Liinahamari partially razed and Parkina near the Varanger fjord by the Norwegian frontier. Continued on page 3.

The air ministry said two British planes intercepted and shot down a German Dornier seaplane over the North Sea. Earlier a Heinkel was reported shot down off Northumberland. Two British fighters then pursued a German aircraft north of the Firth of Forth, but it escaped.
Helsinki corresp from Beglinske Tidende said a new Finnish government proposes to grant all Russia original demands for territory and military bases including a base at Hango peninsula. Meanwhile Dagen Nyheter in Stockholm reported an unconfirmed rumor that composer Jean Sibelius was killed in Soviet raids on Helsinki.
The Knights of Columbus carnival at the council home on West Park street opened with attendance filling nearly all space. A parade led by Boys' Central High School and Girls' Central High School drum corps kicked off the event, signaling a strong start to the festival.
