Four climbers search for Everest route in icefall trek

Four members of the American Bicentennial Everest expedition left base camp with four Sherpa guides to seek a route through the Khumbu icefall. The 12 member team set base camp at 18 000 feet on the west side of Khumbu Glacier. The expedition reported weather as clear and cold with light snow at night and generally good health among climbers though one had a toothache.
