London Aug 29 Soviet Russia announced a prisoner total of 513000 and said its Far Eastern forces have halted Japan’s Kwantung army as the Moscow commentator claimed the wartime aim was achieved to speed the end of operations in the Far East. Port Arthur units and a Pacific fleet move were noted with 81 generals among the prisoners.

Navy selects Tongue Point for 500 reserve craft berthing
The 13th naval district announced that Tongue Point in Astoria Oregon was chosen as a berthing site for about 500 naval reserve auxiliary craft of smaller types. The announcement was made Wednesday night by the Navy Department.

40 Forest Fires Reported in Deer Lodge District This Year
W. E. Fry, supervisor of Deer Lodge National forest, reports 40 fires so far this year, up from five by August 30 last year. Of the 40 blazes, 13 were man caused and four of those were accidental. The rise ties to dry conditions after lighter rains this season and heavy rains last June and July. A Berry Meadows lightning fire in the Boulder district was the last report, under control. The Butte area residents are praised for helping curb man caused blazes.
