Gov. C Ben Ross declared martial law in Gem Boise and Valley counties to curb incendiaries and ordered troops to quell new fires. A Cleanup campaign began as 45 forest workers were discharged and escorted from restricted areas. Seven new fires were reported in 24 hours. three in High valley with a large blaze. Three hundred men fought the fires as Placerville areas faced main fire zones.

Butte Youth Arrested in Auto Theft Case
Gilbert Semmens, a Butte youth, was arrested on a charge of automobile theft tied to a Hudson car stolen around June 10 from Bob Fraser of the Hudson-Essex firm. Police found tires stolen from the same company in a basement, and Semmens denied knowledge of the tires as investigators questioned two others. County Attorney Bourquin was called to police headquarters.

Bank Book 15 Found in Clarksburg Murders Case
A fifth body, a Chicago woman, was found tonight near the garage in Clarksburg as Harry F Powers confessed to murdering a widow and her three children last month. Powers confirmed the victims in a monied agency killing spree and said there are no more victims. The latest victim was described as stocky with black hair and was killed by twisting webbing around her neck. The bodies of Mrs. Asta Eicher and her children Harry Greta and Anabel had been found earlier Friday nearby.
