Firefighters Brace for Containment Across Northern Idaho Blaze Cluster

As of Sunday afternoon about 7,000 firefighters are on eight large fires and three new blazes in northern Idaho. Smoke jumpers logged 32 jumps and aircraft dropped 39 000 gallons of retardant. Flames have scorched 8 550 acres. 1 710 men, 43 bulldozers and air support work to contain with containment likely late this week. Other fires include Bushy Fork 2 600 acres 45 men, Cotter Bar 7 250 acres 500 men, Hanover Mountain 950 acres 200 men, and Plume Creek Miller Creek Lander’s Fork burns totaling about 2 000 acres with 600 fighters.

Church group unveils riot prevention plan across nation

The United Church in the U S A with 3.3 million members released an 18 point program to curb racial crises before during and after riots. It is circulated to race workers and implemented in 16 cities with credit for preventing unrest.

House committee eyes Viet policy

A congressional watchdog panel pressed for a reassessment of the U S position in South Vietnam. It urged Saigon to implement social and economic reforms to gain popular support and warned of wide economic aid revisions amid corruption, elections, and refugee and land reform concerns. The letter cites lack of progress in pacification, security, and Vietcong control of rural areas.

Two Dead and Fifteen Missing in Lake Erie Sky Dive

Fifteen of nineteen sky divers vanished after leaping from a B25 at 20 000 feet over Lake Erie amid heavy overcast and strong winds near Wakeman Ohio. Glacier staff holds annual party after grizzly deaths

Glacier National Park staff and student workers staged their annual beauty pageant as a tribute to move on two weeks after two co workers were killed by grizzly bears. Randee Jane Crisman, 20, Missoula, won queen, while Michele Koons and Julie Helgeson, both 19, died in Aug. 12 attacks. Crisman also worked at Lake McDonald Lodge and plans to return as a naturalist.
