Chicago Aug 26 UP Chief Investigator Pat Roche of the state's attorney's office ordered the arrest of Alphonse Scarface Al Capone in the ransom kidnapping of John J Speek. A raid on Capone’s Lexington hotel stronghold failed to find him as Lynch, a racing information magnate, was held for almost a week before a $125000 Lake Geneva mansion return. Capone had offered to help authorities free Lynch amid warnings of a potential double cross.
World War II veteran George August, a prominent Butte Legionnaire, is expected to go to court to seek jail for an alleged abducter of his 16 year old daughter Pauline Marie August who has been traced to a Coeur d Alene Idaho convent. Bridget M Burns of Butte faces kidnapping charges and is to appear in justice court to answer why she should not be jailed.
A riotous free-for-all in Colon wounded Dr Arnulfo Arias and sparked chaos as police struggled to clear streets after a municipal council session. U S soldiers were recalled to bases and reinforcements were sent from Panama City by train.

At Bert Mooney Airport a signboard tore loose and struck a plane. Winds remained strong from morning to night with a 30 mile breeze noted in the evening. The 14 hour average velocity reached 25 miles an hour, well above normal seven miles an hour for summer days.
Norfolk, Va Aug 26 UP The DC X rested on the harbor tonight for the final leg of its flight from Europe to New York. Two stowaways, Clemson student Guy Perry and aviation mechanic Lewis Andrews, were ashore at Charleston after boarding last night while the crew slept. The 12 motor flying boat logged 110 mph in clear view of about three thousand spectators as it set course for New York amid uneventful progress.
In Bozeman on August 26 a bolt of lightning struck a 40-foot tree near a playground. The lightning shattered the tree and split three sides of Benny Vickers's play wagon. the seven year old boy was frightened but not hurt. The tree was hurled about 70 yards.
CINCINNATI Aug 26 Police traced the wandering barber William L Cherry 36 who said he escaped from a Tennessee prison farm in 1917 and later served in World War I. He surrendered after claiming conscience guilt drove him to end the years of hiding. Cherry said he enlisted in Topeka Kansas in 1918 hoping his prints would protect his freedom, but after the war he found himself a decorated hero with 22 shrapnel wounds. He admitted forging three checks to fund gifts for a loved one and hid in a wagon to escape a 3 to 15 year sentence. An officer was en route for extradition following confirmation from Warden A A McCorkle of Nashville.
A 23 mile stretch of new highway from Cracker ville to Deer Lodge was nearly complete, drastically shortening the Yellowstone trail route. The Montana project, let by the state highway commission and contracted by L T Lawler, reduces distance, removes dangerous railroad crossings and speeds travel toward Missoula, with graveling finishing today save for a five mile segment north of Deer Lodge.
Havre Montana editors and their wives begin to arrive for the three day state press association meeting opening tomorrow afternoon. Jeon Shaw of the Billings Gazette and Henry Weare of Chester, secretary, are among early arrivals. Registration at the Grand hotel starts tomorrow morning with sessions at the Elks hall. Governor Erickson, Congressman Scott and other speakers are scheduled for forums addressing key newspaper issues.
Yuko Hamaguchi, once called the lion of Japanese politics, died in Tokyo at age 61 from injuries inflicted by an assassin last November. He had briefly recovered from wounds but relapsed, relinquishing the premiership to Rejiro Wakatsuki in April.

Frank Harris, critic, author and editor, self-exiled in France, died in his sleep at his Nice villa. He was 75, suffered bronchitis, and was survived by his wife Nellie O'Hara Harris. Funeral set for Friday at the Episcopal church in Nice with burial in a Protestant cemetery.

Registration for all classes at Girls Central High will be held next Wednesday. The regular term opens September 8 with an anticipated enrollment of about 325, including 110 freshmen from the city’s parochial grade schools. Existing staff will remain, with Sister Francesca as head.
