East German Soldier Flies Through Berlin Wall Barbed Wire
A East German sentry escaped over the Berlin wall under cover of darkness near Kiefholz Street in Neukoelln while comrades fired on him. He was the first to breach since Aug 14 when Peter Fechter died. A second swimmer was fired on as he tried to cross the Spree, captured by a patrol boat. West Berlin police counted 41 known wall fatalities since 1961.

Three Butte youths hospitalized after Ramsay crash
A 1952 car rolled twice near Ramsay at 2 30 p m injuring three teens. Janice Brickles 15 Nancy Crosby 16 and Thomas Gilbreath 17 of Butte were taken to St James Community Hospital in good condition. Brickles was driving when the vehicle veered onto the shoulder and rolled over 96 feet.

A Saturday fire in a tele phone bay knocked out Whitefish Telephone Exchange. Pacific Power & Light official estimated losses up to $100,000 though the building equipment was destroyed but not the structure. The fire started about 5 p.m. and the incident affected service for several days.

Sylvia Azure, 18, identified as the drowning victim found in a car pulled from the Missouri River opposite Giant Springs. The car, reported stolen a week earlier, was owned by Richard Gullings and was taken between 1:30 am and 9 am Saturday with the ignition on. Authorities found no foul play.
