Dillon hosts Montana's Biggest Weekend fair and rodeo events

Bear mauls 13 year old girl at remote Montana camp

Mary Kathy Lindsen of East Point Georgia, 13, was bitten in the head and hands when a bear invaded a sleeping bag camp along the South Fork of the Flathead River north of Missoula. She was treated at a Missoula hospital and released after injuries. helicopter transport preceded care. The bear wandered into the camp around 1 30 a.m. and was driven off by campers with flashlights.

Iraq to Execute 15 Accused Spies

Baghdad radio announced dawn executions for fifteen Iraqis convicted of spying for Israel and the United States. Among the condemned were five soldiers and at least two Jews. the broadcasts gave few trial details.

Idaho resident among four killed in weekend Montana crashes

Four people died in weekend highway accidents across Montana raising the 1969 toll to 216. Alvin F. Fitz, 63, of Belleview Idaho, died Sunday at Community Hospital of Anaconda from head on collision injuries after a late Friday crash near Wisdom Beaverhead County coroner A A Longfellow confirmed the deaths include Fitz who was a World War II veteran and Idaho miner. He retired in 1969 and is survived by his mother and siblings in California.

Bombing attempt ends in tragedy at Izmir fair

A Jordanian student was killed and another injured when a homemade time bomb exploded in Izmir late Saturday. Police said the device intended for the Israeli pavilion exploded in the hands of the attackers after they abandoned the plan due to heavy protection. Abdul Fattah Silmi, 24, died. Omer Hassan Hammed, 25, was wounded and in satisfactory condition. Both studied three years at the Agricultural College of Aegan University in Izmir.

Boys State honors Earle Canty from Butte as outstanding citizen

Dillon AP The American Legion Montana Boys State wrap up nine days with diplomas pins and special awards. Earle Canty son of Avron and Mrs Canty of Butte was named outstanding citizen among 520 delegates and will serve as Butte High student body president this year. Canty carries a 3.97 grade average.

Nixon delays Vietnam troop withdrawal decision

President Nixon postponed until indefinite dates a final plan to withdraw more troops from South Vietnam.
