Butte aldermen weigh a program offering loans up to 6500 with 3 to 8 percent interest to rehabilitate homes. Banks would fund 20 percent, city 80 percent, with grants for extreme hardship and 4 percent return to banks. Eligibility scales to family size and gross income.
Egyptian troops disguised as mechanics boarded the EgyptAir Boeing 737 in Luxor and overpowered three Arab gunmen who had threatened to blow up the plane and demanded Libyan destination. No passengers or crew were injured in the rescue, officials said.
Attorneys for three defendants argue grand jury selection was illegal and the indictments invalid citing changes in law and potential bias. The charges stem from alleged thefts and bribes related to the state Workers Compensation Division and are being debated in Helena.
Representative Max Baucus agreed to a televised debate with Republican William Diehl after MTN accepted a modified plan. The Montana League of Women Voters said the network would sponsor an hour long event with two journalists and a league representative.

The House voted to enter conference with the Senate on a multibillion dollar tax revision and extension. Talks could begin after the Senate is ready, House leader said, with current cuts worth about 180 dollars yearly for a family of four earning 15 thousand. The 1,730 page Senate bill arrived in the House as an amended version of last December’s measure.
