Mine cave in at Drumlummon traps 20 workers in Marysville
The 20 man day shift at the Drumlum mon gold mine escaped unharmed when the Montana Rainbow Mining main shaft near Marysville caved in. Fifty feet of track bed collapsed between the 400 and 700 foot levels blocking the shaft with muck and timbers. Emergency crews from Helena rushed to the scene. damage is estimated at 25000 with a month and a half ore-out delay. The mine, dating to 1876, has produced over 30 million in gold. Evicted janitor kills landlord with bayonet in Chicago
In Chicago on August 23 a 40 year old evicted janitor seized a World War I bayonet and stabbed landlord Frederick Kuehn three times in the abdomen. Robert Barr, evicted and freed from charges, fled the scene with bailiffs in pursuit as Barr allegedly killed Kuehn after losing his job when the boiler room flooded.
