The Montana Commission approved contracts for nineteen road projects Tuesday pending Bureau of Public Roads concurrence. Total contracts reached 4.596 million, about 400 thousand below engineer estimates, lifting year’s total to 7.1 million versus 4.6 million at the same point last year.
The 86 300 acre blaze spans four northwestern states and Canada as crews seek weather relief and more volunteers. Shuswap Lake in British Columbia tops the damage at 30 000 acres, edging closures from the Alberta border to Vancouver Island and forcing evacuations and access limits.
