Thousands of West Berliners rioted along the anti refugee wall after bombing a Soviet army bus. Two Red soldiers were injured and 300 riot police were deployed to disperse the crowd. The chase extended to McNair Barracks and the Russian War Memorial area. Police reported multiple injuries among rioters and officers.
The 35th annual Rocky Mountain Garden Club show runs at the Race Track Volunteer Dept. HQ in Butte with theme Cavalcade of America. Hours are 6 to 9 30 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Judging Tuesday at 1 p.m. Mrs. George Patrick is general chair, Mrs. OS Patrick cochairman.
The Montana State Board of Examiners directed Dr. A C Knight to negotiate with two unions after Galen Hospital workers voted. Local 1620 OFE represents kitchen and dining staff, while Independent Employes Association covers housekeeping and nurses. Separate ballot tallies show varied support and abstentions.

A four month TB clinic report shows 517 skin tests administered with 190 positive reactions and 678 X-rays. 113 contacts examined, 6 new TB cases found, 4 suspicious cases, 80 arrested TB cases examined, 313 old silicosis reexamined, 30 new silicosis, 34 new emphysema, 37 new pathology, 2 enlarged hearts, 258 nurse visits, 47 patients admitted to Montana TB Sanitarium in Galen, 46 discharged, total 64 patients in MTS, and 2 TB deaths. Free tests and X-rays offered, Tine tests supplied by Montana TB Association. plan for preschool tests and later upper-class testing.
Centerville firefighters battled a vacant one story home in the 700 block on Seammit for three hours until flames reached 10 to 12 feet. They arrived at 1:40 a.m. and the house burned to the ground with no nearby structures damaged.
Rev. James Fabian Kittleson 37, priest at Geyser in the Great Falls Diocese, died in a two car collision on U.S. Highway 11 ten miles south of Spokane en route to a liturgical conference. Companions Kerry Feldman 22 and Michael Duffy 1962 Carroll College graduate were hospitalized in Spokane with serious injuries. The second car carried Sgt Myron Thompson 46 his wife Thelma 36 and children.
Richard G. Pratt about 31 a Billings barber was killed Sunday evening in a small racing cart one half mile west of Absarokee on the Stillwater River Road. Officials said the vehicle hit a rock and Pratt was thrown into a fence post. Pratt is survived by his widow son Danny 5 daughter Debbie 3 his father Archie Pratt and mother Mrs Everett Hawthorne all of Billings.
The Montana Supreme Court heard oral arguments on whether to permanently bar Butte's 2nd District Court from involvement in a Teamsters BA&P railroad picketing dispute. Justices debated jurisdiction under Taft Hartley after a temporary restraining order. decision date pending.
Geraldine D. Baker, 53, died after ingesting insecticide of the DDT type at about 2 a.m. at her home in Butte. Coroner Andy Aleksich ruled the death accidental. She was born June 5, 1909 in Great Falls and married Roy Baker in 1929. She and her husband ran Copper Hill Dog Kennels and she is survived by her husband, a daughter Geraldine, and her father Robert S. Diamond.
Anaconda Co. chairman C. E. Weed in Butte Montana says Teamsters Local No. 2 can not and will not exceed terms granted to unions with contracts into 1964. He states the strike has not materially hurt company earnings due to copper overproduction and will help rebalance supply and demand. Weed regrets Montana operations bear the labor burden amid ongoing strife.
Jean Stovall six daughter of Mr and Mrs Orville Stovall was reported in satisfactory condition after surgery to remove a bullet from her head. The incident occurred on the Stovall ranch near Pryor at 7 am when Gregg Stovall aged 15 fired a .22 rifle at a skunk and the bullet glanced off the ground and struck Jean.
A DC8 operated by Panair Do Brasil with 101 people aboard crashed on takeoff from Ga leao Airport and plunged into Guanabara Bay in flames. Witnesses report one engine exploded before impact, the jet and landing gear broke off, then the plane struck a wall and submerged. Survivors were pulled from the water as officials assessed fatalities.
In Hill County near Havre, Bernard Vazruska 10 Doris 8 and Edith 7 perished in a vacant farm house while exploring attics after using matches to see. Clarence 9 stayed on the ground floor and alerted his father as flames spread, but the house was destroyed about 6 p.m. five miles south of U.S. 2.
Partly cloudy with showers this afternoon and a cooler trend by Wednesday. Temperatures reach 82 today and 72 to 85 Wednesday. West of Divide expects a cooling trend with highs of 72 to 80 and lows 35 to 45. Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph Tuesday in the northwest portion.
