Catholics polled on holy day rules changes study

A nationwide sample of Roman Catholics shows most lay members oppose changes to Mass attendance rules on holy days though clergy and religious orders lean toward some change. Preliminary results by Bishop Aloysius Wycisle will be presented mid November to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops with final findings pending.

Camille death toll could reach 1000

Gulfport Mississippi governor Williams announced that Hurricane Camille's death toll could rise well beyond current estimates as bodies were found. He cited numbers over 500 and possibly 1,000 with 170 confirmed dead and 162 killed along the coast. Martial law placed guards and patrols in control to quarantine and curb visitor flow.

Madison County Fair and Horse Show begins Thursday in Twin Bridges with new additions. Boys State parties shape Thursday state primary

In Dillon Montana over 500 delegates to the American Legion Montana Boys State hold county general elections Tuesday afternoon. Ballots were to be counted late Tuesday on the Western Montana College campus and results released Wednesday morning as Pioneer and Frontier parties refine platforms and discuss candidates for Thursday's state primary.

Harper Named County's New Representative

Robert J. Harper, 29, of 68 Missoula, was appointed Tuesday by the Board of County Commissioners to succeed Pat Williams and serve until the 1966 general election. Harper, a Democrat, won the vote of Chairman Robert W. Sparks and Earl J. Holman amid competition from Ruth E. Boulter and others. he plans to seek re election in the Democratic primary.

Anaconda Co expands anti pollution efforts in Montana

Anaconda Company announces major summer upgrades to its waste water disposal in the Butte Anaconda area. General manager Martin K Hannifan says work includes expanding settling capacity near Warm Springs log booms to curb wave action and a new pump and dredge at the Butte copper concentrator. The project cost ne arly 500 000 bringing total Clark Fork treatment system spending this year to about 1.6 million.

People's Voice to suspend publication after editor resigns

The liberal Montana paper will pause publication after editor Ben Hansen resigned to join the Great Falls Tribune. Clarence Stoltz says no editor currently, plans to resume once a new editor is found, with job printing continuing. The Voice Plant sits across from the state capitol, with officials studying potential use for a new supreme court building.
