Man Dies From Store Shooting at Christie Furniture
Robert Henningsen 45, vice president and manager of Christie Furniture Co. at 20 W. Broadway, died early this morning at St. James Community Hospital after a gunshot wound to the chest. He had been in extreme critical condition since Thursday. Roy Sanders 74, a retired Butte machinist, was charged with second degree assault and awaits psychiatric evaluation after the Aug. 6 incident. Coroner will consult with county attorney on inquest. Body lies at Wayrynen Funeral Home.

Emmons Named Montana Labor Commissioner
Emmons 59 a former Democratic state representative and labor union official from Anaconda was tapped by Gov. Tim Babcock to head the Department of Labor and Industry. He will start Sept. 1 in a $7,500 yearly post, replacing Maurice Jones who resigned in June. Emmons, an eight term Deer Lodge County legislator, said he will run the office nonpartisan and urged legislation to make the department more meaningful to labor and management.

Senate approves extended poverty war funding vote

Head on crash near Terry claims two lives
A Billings man Arthur Moller, 56, and Seattle woman Mrs Peter Sobota, about 58, were killed in a head-on collision about 10 miles east of Terry. Montana Highway Patrol identified the victims and noted the toll of 159 highway fatalities for the year, four below last year, with Roy Pratt, 77, of Craig added for July 18 injuries.
