Two of five inmates who escaped Aug. 9 were returned to Silver Bow County Jail. Lee Dale Burns 27 of Butte and Robert Thomas Williams 19 of Tacoma were flown back from Farmington New Mexico by Sheriff William Dalling and Deputy William Duckham. Stanley Popek 40 of Winnipeg remains at large.

A 15 year old girl from Butte was hospitalized with a possible broken leg after a car truck collision one mile east of Whitehall on U S 10. Loretta Ritchie 15 of 4005 California drove a 1951 car into the truck driven by Frank Mattila’s husband. Mrs Louella Mattila 31 and her daughter Debra were admitted for observation with minor injuries.

One-car crash claims life near Outlook Montana
Paul E Rovig, 28, a local farmer, died in a single vehicle crash four miles south of Outlook between 3 and 3:30 am Sunday. Coroner Stanley G Smith said he likely fell asleep at the wheel as the car left the road and struck an approach. Rovig was alone. survived by his parents. The death brought Montana highway toll to 150, first in 1962 for the county.
