CAPE CANAVERAL Fla. United States will launch an unmanned Project Mercury capsule into orbit for the first time and send a space platform aloft for a deep space payload. NASA aims to reach an astronaut in orbit within this decade, following a Ranger I test toward the moon. The plan also includes no further suborbital flights after Shepard and Grissom.

Lightning Fire Rages Toward Montana Border From Idaho

100 Combat Fire Near Deer Lodge

Four Helena residents injured in Frontier Town balcony collapse
AP report from Helena states four people were seriously hurt when a balcony railing collapsed at Frontier Town. The most severely injured was a man described as a manager at the Independent Record, with a fractured skull. He and three others were dumped onto rocks below and transported to a Great Falls hospital by ambulance.

Spade Cooley, 30, once a famed western swing bandleader, was found guilty of murdering his wife Ella Mae, 37, at their Willow Springs ranch. Counterfeit $20 Bills Seized In Virginia Raid
Federal agents seized nearly 300000 in counterfeit $20 notes and arrested Morris Leon Chaney 29 in Washington.
