A devastating explosion at a naval torpedo and mine factory near Cadiz killed hundreds and injured thousands. Early tallies put deaths at 134 with searches ongoing. officials warned the toll could exceed 200 as buildings collapsed and a hospital and orphanage were destroyed.
A Paraguayan foreign ministry statement from Buenos Aires announced that after five and a half months the civil war near Asuncion is virtually over. It said revolutionary forces surrendered their river fleet and fled, with government troops retaking towns around the capital. The embassy noted the danger to Asuncion has passed and further rebel activity was unlikely.
Three teenage G. I.'s from the 32nd United States infantry division were seized eight days ago and held incommunicado by Soviet occupation authorities. An Army spokesman said two letters requesting explanation have gone unanswered. The youths were on a routine telephone line check near Yahyon Ni on the U S Soviet border when arrested.
The body of M. C. Baldwin, 57, from Lawton Oklahoma, was recovered from Yellowstone Lake after his boat capsized in a wind storm on August 1. Herbert J. Kleine, 47, of Altoona Pennsylvania, who died with Baldwin, was found last Saturday. Still missing are Cody Wyoming fishermen Herman Hutton Robert Clark and Gene Reichman, all drowned in a similar accident last month.
Daniel W. Ashley 53 of Darien vice president and publisher of United States News was struck by lightning and killed Tuesday night during a severe electrical storm that caused extensive damage in Darien and Washington D. C.

In Las Vegas Nevada on August 19 two Indian girls were wounded in the stomach by poisoned arrows during a tribal ceremony. They were placed in the care of a witch doctor while an ambulance driver reported the incident to sheriff officers. Deputy Revert led a small escort with an interpreter to investigate at the Pahrump valley Indian reservation in the Mt. Charleston region.
The post office department said inspectors are alerted to crack down on a new version of the chain letter craze with a $2,048 lure. The department noted indications that another wave of chain letters is sweeping the nation.

Greek dispatches report a 1000-strong guerrilla force attacked Naoussa, an industrial town 50 miles west of Salonika, burning 150 houses and facilities before Greek army counterattacks with artillery repelled the assault.
