UN subcommittee flew back to Kaesong to resume truce talks with Rea negotiators as officials show signs of breaking the deadlock over the buffer zone issue.
Two U N and Communist negotiators in Kaesong show cautious optimism for an early truce line agreement. Washington officials see new subcommittee moves and China’s propagandistic talks of adjustments as hopeful signs, but deeper disputes over armistice enforcement and inspection access persist.
Senator George of Georgia announced plans to cut about 2 billion dollars from President Truman's foreign aid program when the Senate takes up the bill next week. The move doubles the House reduction of roughly 1.001 billion. The measure would then provide 7.499 billion in military and economic aid to allies fighting Communism. The senator, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, urged ending all economic aid for Europe.
The Seattle Fort Lewis visit by the Butte tumblers and the school accordion band is planned as a week long tour with performances for armed services personnel. Sen Wiley urges creation of a permanent Senate crime investigation panel to continue the Kefauver O Conor inquiry. He proposes the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee or a sub-group take over to pursue criminals and witnesses who have evaded testimony after 16 months of the special committee.
Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon accused eight Republican colleagues of crafting a partisan report criticizing President Truman over General Douglas MacArthur. Morse said time will show MacArthur lacked sympathy with U.S. policy and deserved dismissal as Far East commander. The armed services and foreign relations panel had voted 20 to 3 not to issue formal reports on the dismissal.
Butte area expects continued fair weather Sunday with a high around 86 and a low near 42. Weekend temperatures include 39 to 83 at the Airport and 41 to 83 at the School of Mines, with scattered thunderstorms possible Sunday night.

She will study at the University of Manchester England after earning a master of science in bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin.
Kingston reports more than 50 dead as the Caribbean hurricane sweeps Jamaica. Officials estimate property losses near 16.8 million dollars with Kingston bearing the brunt including the old Port Royal area. Convicts reportedly escaped Kingston prison during the storm.
In Turin, prosecutor Borghese says two former American soldiers will be tried in Italy for the 1944 OSS leader William Holohan murder. If not extradited, Aldo Icardi and Carl LaDolce face trial in absentia. US and Italian legal issues loom over extradition and jurisdiction. The Montana chapter of the American College of Surgeons received its charter during a one day conclave at the Pinson hotel. Dr. Joel W. Baker presented the charter to Dr. H. H. James as Norman J. Holter spoke on the foundation and aims of the organization. The banquet honored about 100 medical professionals and guests with entertainment from Dolores Conta.
Col Keith K. Compton of St. Joseph Missouri shattered the Bendix trophy race record by averaging 555.73 mph across 1,919.5 miles from Edwards Air Force Base to Detroit in a North American F8 Saber jet. He landed with 25 gallons of fuel, finishing three hours, 26 minutes after starting, on the opening day of the National Air Races.
