Elvis Presley Buried Today In Copper Coffin At Graceland

Thousands of fans gathered at Graceland as Elvis Presley lay in a seamless copper coffin in private viewings. Police estimated peak crowds around 50,000. the public viewing extended to 7:30 p.m. EDT before the body was entombed near his mother’s grave. The singer’s death prompted tributes from fans and President Carter, who called him unique and irreplacable.

Record rains ease fire danger but drought persists

Rains of about 1.88 inches in Los Angeles and over three inches in parts of Southern California sharply reduce fire risk but do little to curb the two year drought. Three Montana Prison Escapees Identified

Three inmates escaped Wednesday from Montana State Prison while on special duty at the assistant warden residence. Officials released names for two men, Michael Ross Klepinger 21 and James Edward Stinger 27, plus a third inmate identified only as C.M. Adams 24.
