Polson Veteran Takes Own Life After Divorce
August Winthers, 45, a World War II era veteran and blacksmith, killed himself less than 24 hours after his wife obtained a divorce. Police say he returned to their Polson home, pressed a revolver to his chest, and shot himself as his wife sought help at a neighbor’s house. He served as a lieutenant in the war and had lived in Polson for many years.
